Hi and welcome to my web site. I’ve been drawing with pencil and pen for as long as I can remember. Doodling was a way to explore what was possible. In 2024, I saw a painting in my mother’s apartment and listened to her story about a dream, how the painting reminded her of the dream and some of the things that were missing from the painting. I was moved by her vision of wanting to finish the painting by adding the missing objects.
Wanting to “finish” the painting for my mom, I realized that I had been intimidated by creating art in color. Drawing in pencil always felt “safe”. That night I decided to see if I could learn how to paint. I searched and found two wonderful teachers on YouTube. One was Malcolm Dewey and the other was Joni Young. That started me on my journey and a year later, I have been amazed at the joy, relaxation and wonder that I have discovered through painting.
Though I started with acrylic painting, I am now exploring watercolor and digital painting as well.
Feel free to browse my gallery. Most of my paintings have been claimed by family members (smile) or get snapped up by friends. But I will do my best to have prints made in a couple of sizes and for sale through my web site.
I recently attended by first craft show in Blackwood, NJ. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed talking to folks about my art.
If you are interested in any of the pieces on my web site, feel free to drop me an email at artderio@rodspace.com.
